Dora Rizzo

Dora Rizzo, a long-time resident of Andrus on Hudson in Hastings, died peacefully on April 9th, three weeks shy of her 100th birthday. She was a colorful personality around the halls of Andrus and throughout her life. Dora was born in New York, but spent her early years in Piedmonte, Italy. The onset of WWII brought her back to New York, where she began work as a seamstress at a young age, later shifting to hospitality at the Waldorf Astoria. She worked her way up to become the union representative until her retirement. She is predeceased by her son Terry Rizzo, her husband Dominick Rizzo, her sister Wanda Mele (nee Bono) and her brother Nadir Bono. She is survived by her granddaughters Ellen Sledge (nee Rizzo) and Amy LaMena (nee Rizzo) and step-grandson Kevin Fogarty, as well as her seven great-grandchildren, Madeline, Sebastian, Adelaide, Leo, Benjamin, Matthew and William. A funeral will be held on at Irvington Presbyterian Church in Irvington NY at a later date.
