On January 6, 2022, Judith (Judy) Lefkowitz Anderson, loving sister and aunt of many nieces and nephews, passed away at the age of 74. Judy was born on April 21, 1947 in Syracuse, NY to Samuel and Adele Lefkowitz. The family moved to Albany, NY in 1951 where she would grow up. Always an independent thinker and adventurer, Judy graduated from the University of Rochester with an undergraduate degree in history and went to the University of California Berkeley where she received a master’s degree in Russian history and completed her coursework for a PhD. She also took the opportunity to live in the Soviet Union for one year while pursuing her studies. She later chose to change her career path and decided to attend law school. Judy graduated from Hastings Law School in San Francisco in 1986. Judy practiced law for 34 years, working at Pettit & Martin and Strook & Strook & Lavan Law firms and finished her career by serving as the Assistant Regional Director for Investor Services at the Securities and Exchange Commission in the San Francisco office where she worked for almost 20 years. While married, Judy lived in Hawaii and Los Angeles before returning to the Bay Area and settling down in Kensington, CA with her beloved dogs. Judy enjoyed taking long walks in the California hills and chose a home close to parks and hiking trails. Judy loved traveling around the world and would often take hiking vacations - most recently in France and Norway. She was fluent in Russian and French and even continued taking French classes as long as she could. Judy loved the arts including going to the opera, symphony, ballet, art museums, and the theater. She never sat still and lived an active life full of friendship and family until she was diagnosed with ALS in August 2020. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Adele Lefkowitz. Judy is survived by her beloved Uncle, Alfred Abraham, sister, Debra Kerner and her spouse Ron Braunfeld, her brother Lawrence Lefkowitz and his spouse Donna Lefkowitz, cherished cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and devoted friends.
