June Paquette
April 21, 2022
June Paquette of Hastings-on-Hudson passed away peacefully on Thursday April 21, 2022, she was 86 years old. She was born in Yonkers to the late George and Katherine Burlington. Growing up in North Yonkers, June had many friends. She was especially admired and respected by neighborhood youngsters for her basketball skills, shooting hoops on Valley Avenue. During her high school years she interned at Yonkers Plumbing Supply and after graduating from the High School of Commerce in 1953, continued working there for six more years as their secretary. In 1955 she married her one and only sweetheart Kenneth Paquette in Christ the King Church in Yonkers and in 1962 they moved to Hastings-on-Hudson to raise their two daughters. It was then she left the workforce keeping busy with the St. Matthew’s Mothers Club and also doing the bulletin for the Hastings Women’s Club. In 1974 June returned to the workforce as an executive secretary and retired after 23 years from Stauffer/Akzo Nobel in Dobbs Ferry. After retirement June enjoyed visiting her brothers at the Jersey shore and spending time at her home in Delray Beach, Florida. She was a devoted Yankee fan and kept track of every win/loss on the Teams schedule. She loved to read on her Kindle, and also enjoyed doing the NYT “Spelling Bee” and most recently “Wordle” each day on her iPad. June and Ken’s home was the “hub” of generations of family. Many Holidays and Birthdays were celebrated there, usually ending with talk, laughter and song around the dinner table. They were always there for those in and outside the immediate family. June will be most remembered as the touchstone in the family – whether for a casual chat or to lend an ear for more serious conversations. She was a modern woman in some un-modern times and was never judgmental or critical of anyone. She always handled herself with grace and kindness to all. She will be sorely missed. She is survived by her daughters Holly (Capuano) and Georgia (Brown), and her grandchildren Claire and Grace Capuano and Steven Brown. She is also survived by her sister Lucille Kopa, and brothers Arthur Burlington, and his husband Joe Picardi and George Burlington and his wife Fran, as well as many nieces and nephews. June was predeceased by her husband Ken after 58 wonderful years of marriage, her son-in-law George Capuano, her sister and brother-in-law Joan and Joseph Sarubbi, her brother-in-law George Kopa, and her nephew Michael Kopa. “A mother is she who can take the place of all others but whose place no one else can take” – Cardinal Mermillod In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Hastings-on-Hudson Ambulance Corps.
