Michael J Naughton Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Michael Naughton of Yonkers, NY passed away on Monday, June 13, 2022, at the age of 86. He was born in the village of Skyvalley, Taughmaconnell, County Roscommon, Ireland on February 9, 1936, to the late Michael and Mary (Myers) Naughton. He immigrated to the United States in 1956 and enlisted in the US Army. After discharge, he met the love of his life, Margaret Ward, and they married in 1960. They lived for a short time in the Bronx before moving to Yonkers where they joined St Denis Parish and raised their family. They were married for almost 62 years and their love for each other created a legacy for their children. Michael worked for the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company (A&P) for 47 years managing many stores in the area. He was a hard worker and an inspiration to all who knew him. Michael and Margaret were inseparable and together they enjoyed traveling and continued to go “back home” to Ireland. He was a mentor, role model, and such a kind, quiet, and gentle person who adored spending time with his family. He taught us how to be a better person through his actions and words, and in the way he treated others. Michael loved sports and rooted for all the NY teams. In his younger years he was a long distance runner, stayed active by playing Gaelic football, softball and even kicked for a local community American football team. For many years he and Margaret visited and brought joy to residents of nursing homes. He enjoyed basking in the sun, going to beaches and local parks, and cherished spending time with his grandchildren. Michael was a member of the Roscommon Society of New York, a strong supporter of Irish Football teams traveling to play at Gaelic Park and an active member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He was a person of devout Catholic faith and a parishioner at Christ the King Church. Michael is survived by his loving wife, Margaret, and five beloved children; Mary Ellen (Tom) Bauman, Michael Naughton, John (Suzanne) Naughton, Margaret (Ed) Nehrebecki, Patrick (Skyla) Naughton, nine grandchildren; Sean (Andrea) Naughton, Brian (Kate) Naughton, Ryan (Katie) Bauman, Conor Naughton, Ashley Nehrebecki, Shannon Bauman, Eddie Nehrebecki, Michael Naughton, Matthew Nehrebecki, and three great grandchildren; Riley, Kiera and Lucas Naughton. He is also survived by his brothers, Patsy and Frank, and sisters, Teresa, Kathleen and Nuala, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Martin, and his sister, Mary Ellen. He will be forever remembered as a compassionate and loving man and will be dearly missed by all. Visiting hours will be from 4-8 PM on Monday, June 20, 2022, at Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home, 64 Ashford Avenue, Dobbs Ferry, NY. Funeral mass to be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at 11AM at Christ the King Church, 740 N Broadway, Yonkers, NY. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.
