Ottilie Badie

Ottilie Badie, 89, a longtime resident of Dobbs Ferry, passed away on March 9, 2022. She was born on September 3, 1932 to the late Otto Merckel and Frances Merckel and was raised in New York City and Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Ottilie attended Columbia University where she met her beloved husband, James W. Badie. They married in 1955 and settled in Hastings-on-Hudson before moving to Dobbs Ferry in 1970. An avid sewer, for many years Ottilie worked and gave lessons at Jack's Fabric in Dobbs Ferry until it closed. She then became an administrative assistant at The Children's Village in Dobbs Ferry and the Abbott House in Irvington. Ottilie was member of Dobbs Ferry Woman’s Club. She was also an active volunteer in all her children's schools and tirelessly drove them to their extracurricular activities. Ottilie was devoted to her family. She had a warm and welcoming nature and was known for her wonderful sense of humor. Ottilie was a gourmet cook who delighted in entertaining her family and friends. She also was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling. Ottilie will be greatly missed. She is survived by her son Clark and his wife Cyndi, son Stuart, daughter Andrea Hegarty and her husband Donal, her grandson Nicholas and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years James in November of 2020 and by her son Claude in 2015. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Ardsley-Secor Volunteer Ambulance Corps, 19 American Legion Drive, Ardsley, NY 10502. Visiting Thursday from 4:00pm to 7:00pm with memorial service at 6:30pm Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home, Dobbs Ferry.
