After a long, beautiful, well-lived 94 years, Phyllis Moretti, of Franklin, MA passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Tuesday August 13th, 2019. A 57 year resident of Ardsley, New York, Phyllis was loved for her sharp wit, kind-heart, and impeccable fashion sense. Her carefully curated outfits were always topped with a colorful scarf and matching accessories, even in her final days. During her early years, when she wasn’t raising her 6 children (whom she adored), she was an avid bowler, tennis player and pianist who loved sewing and knitting. Phyllis also spent many years as a Teacher's Assistant for Special Needs Students a role in which she said was “most rewarding”. Following the death of her husband of 53 years, Leonard Moretti, Phyllis resided in Ardsley until 2013 when she moved in with her daughter Phyllis and son-in-law, Steven Morgante. Even after moving to Massachusetts, however, her faith in her New York sports teams beating Boston sports teams never ceased and her bets on their chances of winning only got higher over the years. In fact, Phyllis routinely won the family football pool - much to the chagrin and astonishment of her grandchildren. There were very few things that Phyllis loved more than a weekly trip to the casino, but undoubtedly her most treasured and important thing in her life was her family. Phyllis leaves behind two younger siblings whom she cherished: Rita Squillante (91) and Elmo Marchionno (87). Phyllis is also survived by her 6 children whom she was so very proud to be a mother to: Leonard L. Moretti and his wife Celia of South Bend (IN), Marie Elena Pepiciello and her husband Anthony of Carmel (NY), Phyllis Morgante and her husband Steven of Franklin (MA), Stephanie Azzolino and her husband Vincent of Mahopac (NY), Louis J. Moretti of Mahopac (NY) and Frank J. Moretti of West Caldwell (NJ). Additionally, Phyllis’ 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren she leaves behind were the light of her life. Soon after arriving in Massachusetts, Phyllis challenged her grandchildren in Massachusetts to give her more great-grandchildren. Over the course of 7 years, they all delivered - literally - to the tune of seven additional great-grandchildren, much to her delight. Although her life is over, we will always appreciate and remember the wonderful times spent laughing and playing with the kids, cleaning out the local casinos, traveling the world (including her first cruise at age 92), and most of all just sitting and reminiscing on her farmer’s porch watching the sunset. We will forever miss her smile, her wisdom and her fun-loving nature. Visitation to be held on Sunday August 18th from 3pm to 8pm at Edwards-Dowdle Funeral Home, 64 Ashford Avenue, Dobbs Ferry, NY 10522. Funeral Service will be held on Monday August 19th at 10:30am at the funeral home followed by entombment at Mount Hope Cemetery, Hastings-on-Hudson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital via mail at 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 or online at www.stjude.org/waystogive .
